Mi Trabajo USA is the first and only web-based Spanish language employment agency. The idea started in Houston, Texas, in response to local businesses impacted by the Bush Administration’s new strategy aimed at companies employing illegal immigrants. (Find out more.) Alarmed that employers and managers are being arrested and charged as well as workers in the new raids, companies needed employees to replace illegal immigrants in the workforce. The challenge was to find not only legal, but also qualified people for these positions.

Some of our founding members were involved at the time with efforts to promote comprehensive immigration reform. These contacts with immigration services and naturalization organizations, local churches and Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Galveston and Houston allowed us to identify legal and newly legal workers in need of jobs.
